| The Healthcare Education Industry Partnership is a program of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. With funding from the 1998 Minnesota State Legislature, HEIP was organized as a targeted industry project. A Partnership Council with majority membership of industry representatives was formed to provide strong industry involvement in strategic planning for healthcare workforce education and training needs of the state. In January, 1999, a kick off statewide strategic planning conference was followed by focus groups around the state. Several strategic initiatives emerged and work groups involving organizations throughout the state were formed: K-12 Partnerships; Workforce Policy; Recruitment and Retention; and Curriculum. Since 1999, the Healthcare Education Industry Partnership's Partnership Council has expanded to include a broad based membership of healthcare providers, professional associations, trade associations, health plans, and higher education. New initiatives have developed, and there has been an intense focus on the shortage of nurses and allied health professionals. Through HEIP committees, training programs and outreach activities, over 2,500 individuals and organizations have been involved in HEIP activities |
