Vision & Implementation

The Minnesota Community Health Worker Program vision is to create:
  • Community Health Worker graphicA process to standardize the profession for CHWs.

  • A standardized process for educating CHWs in Minnesota through the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System. Curriculum will be 8-10 credits including community based training and an internship.

  • A process for incorporating CHWs into the healthcare workforce by working with health plans and payers to create a sustainable employment market.

Implementation of the Minnesota CHW program:

  • Curriculum has been written and designed through an Advisory Council that identified essential competencies/skills for a CHW. Students will receive a certificate upon completion of the program.

  • Eleven credit curriculum with an internship included was designed as a pathway into higher levels of healthcare training.

  • Curriculum is being offered at Minneapolis Community and Technical College and South Central College. It will soon be available to Rochester Community and Technical College and Summit Academy OIC and Inver Hills Community College.
